Almost fifty years on Migjorn beach
Sa Platgeta is a family beach restaurant. It opened in July 1978 and has watched Formentera change ever since, without moving from its spot.
1978: the beginning, under the pines
In the late 1970s, Formentera was an island of dirt tracks. We opened Sa Platgeta right on Migjorn beach, under century-old pines. At first it was a simple place: fishermen, neighbours and the first travellers sat down to eat whatever the sea and the fields had given that day.
Our family’s recipes
From day one we cooked what we knew: bullit de peix, paellas made without hurrying and fresh fish baked in the oven. Today the menu also has lobster with eggs and chips, octopus and black rice, some of the dishes our guests remember most. We still work with island suppliers.
A new generation
Formentera has changed a great deal, and every summer brings new places. Almost twenty-five years ago the family handed over to Toni and Juanjo, who have run the restaurant with their team ever since. They have kept what people come for: tables on the sand, seafood cooking and the same beach. Many guests come back year after year, and some have been coming for decades.
Heading for fifty
In 2028 we turn fifty. We want to get there the way we started: with our feet in the sand, right on Migjorn beach.
